School Planning   |    Dress Code   |    Severe Weather   |   School Policies   |    Complaints

In times of severe weather or other emergency, the health, wellbeing and safety of pupils, staff and other users of the school building are of prime concern.  When adverse weather occurs during the school day a decision is made at short notice where the first priority is to transport bus pupils home.  These factors are taken into consideration by the Head Teacher when deciding to close a school.

•    Parents should advise schools of an alternative address, as close as possible to the school, which may be used by their children in emergencies

•    The decision as to whether a pupil should attempt to travel to school, by transport or on foot, in adverse weather conditions, whether by transport or on foot, lies with the parents
•    The final decision on whether it is safe to operate rests with the driver of the school transport.  There may be occasions on which a school is open but some routes, or parts of, are unable to operate

•    During difficult weather conditions, no pupil is expected to wait longer than twenty minutes past the normal ‘pick-up’ time for their school bus.  Morning journeys may be delayed by an hour if road conditions are unsafe at the normal journey time

•    Drivers are advised not to drop off children where there is a risk that they may not safely reach home or other place of shelter

•    Where parents are concerned about weather conditions at “drop-off” points, they should contact the school as soon as possible

The School has a dial-in service if there is a risk of closure due to adverse weather and will endeavour to keep the system updated.

How to use the service:
  • Dial - 0800 564 2272
  • Now enter the school’s own pin number 04 1060
  • You will now hear the school's name

Select 1 to hear your school's adverse weather message - whether school is closed or if school transport is not running.
